Living in the Thuringian Holzland
Hermsdorf
Hermsdorf, the little town situated almost 30 km to the east of Jena, has been an important place since the Middle Ages. The town centre with its attractive half-timbered houses still recalls this period today.
However, this place located in the Thuringian Holzland region with its approximately 8,000 inhabitants has plenty more to offer: for example, a mature infrastructure with cafes, childcare centres, schools and shopping facilities and varied leisure facilities for young and old. Children and young people can let off steam in the outdoor swimming pool, at the skateboard park or on the three football pitches. For schoolchildren and sports club members, there is an ultra-modern athletics track and a three-pitch sports hall available.
The Hermsdorf residents are particularly proud of its charming, scenic location between vast forests and deep valleys spanned by spectacular bridges. The most well-known example of this is the Teufelstalbrücke in the Zeitzgrund nature reserve. The region’s many hiking and biking routes invite you to enjoy active leisure pursuits and a comfortable stop-off at one of the guesthouses which have been converted from historic mills.
