Tips for reducing running costs

Our advisors for smart tenants

Since the running costs make up a significant part of the monthly rent, we are always looking at optimising these. In order to effectively manage your apartment complex, for example, we keep a watchful eye on the efficient use of waste bins, sustainable energy and lighting systems or the practical combining of apartment buildings into economic units.

Since you, the tenant, can have a great influence on your incidental costs based on your usage behaviour, we offer you regular tips on how to be more aware of your water, electricity and energy consumption.

Heating and ventilation tips

How comfortable you feel within your own four walls depends largely on the room temperature. It’s important to have a good balance between fresh air and well-distributed heating in your rooms. With the intelligent use of heating and ventilation, you not only ensure a comfortable climate but you will benefit your own health and moreover save on heating costs!

  • Ventilate your rooms several times per day

Let a ‘draught’ of air come in for five minutes at a time and close the radiator valve while doing so!
  • Avoid constant ventilation
Do not waste energy by leaving windows in a tilted position!
  • Allow any water vapour to escape
Ventilate the relevant rooms after a shower, bath or cooking!
  • Keep doors closed
Prevent damp air from entering cooler rooms and forming condensation there.

You can find further tips in our brochure entitled ‘Whenever it’s cold outside’.

With our ‘well-being card’ you can control both the room temperature and the air humidity in your rooms. By using two measurement fields on the back of the card, you can see directly when you need to ventilate or heat your rooms. The card can be obtained free of charge from our service centres.

Energy saving tips

  • Use switchable power strips
Use switchable power strips because computers still use electricity when they are in standby mode!
  • Ceiling lights
Avoid using uplighters as they use several times as much energy as energy saving light bulbs!
  • Replace CRT monitors
Opt for LCD flat-screens as they are more economical and easier on your eyes than CRT monitors!
Use energy saving light bulbs
Change to energy saving light bulbs in order to reduce your energy consumption by up to 80 percent!
